Apple’s New Siri AI: A Different Approach to Chatbots

The long-awaited arrival of Apple’s new Siri AI has finally come, and initial impressions suggest that it is functioning effectively. Having had the opportunity to test it out, one standout feature of Siri AI is its concise and direct responses, which is actually a positive quality.

In contrast to many AI chatbots that tend to be overly friendly and chatty, Siri AI takes a more straightforward approach. While a more conversational tone can enhance the user experience and create a sense of attachment, some individuals have developed deep emotional connections with chatbots. The sudden shutdown of GPT-4o by OpenAI led to user mourning, prompting the company to reintroduce the model for paid users. Despite efforts by some companies to tone down their AI models’ personalities, I still find that most chatbots tend to be overly talkative and push users towards prolonged interactions.

With Siri AI, this issue is non-existent; it simply provides answers to queries without unnecessary conversation.

Curious about the differences in responses, I compared the default personalities of Google’s Gemini, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Siri AI. While Siri’s personality cannot be altered, the comparison revealed distinct characteristics. For instance, when asked “What’s today’s weather in Portland?”

When prompted with more personal questions like “Can you be my friend?”

And delving deeper with “Do you love me?”

These interactions reflect the overall personalities of each company: Gemini comes across as overly enthusiastic, ChatGPT aims for a calm demeanor while seeking emotional connection, and Siri AI maintains a more reserved and detached attitude. However, as Siri AI is set for a broader release with iOS 27, Apple may adjust its tone.

While Siri AI’s succinct approach may seem cold, it effectively conveys information concisely. Apple’s intention is clear – Siri AI is meant to be viewed as a practical tool rather than a companion. This perspective may serve as a reminder of how users should perceive AI chatbots in general.
