BMW Celebrates One-Millionth M Car Milestone

BMW has reached a significant milestone by producing its one-millionth M car, marking a historic moment for the German automaker. This achievement comes as BMW gears up to introduce its first fully electric BMW M3, signaling the high-performance division’s entry into the electric vehicle era.

The milestone vehicle, a stunning M3 finished in BMW Individual Fire Orange III paintwork, was assembled at the BMW Group Plant Munich and unveiled at a special ceremony recently.

Established over 50 years ago, BMW M has a rich history, with the original M3 hitting the market 40 years ago. The one-millionth M car showcases the enduring appeal of BMW M vehicles, according to Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M.

Looking ahead, Munich will become the exclusive production site for the upcoming fully electric M3, which will utilize BMW’s innovative Neue Klasse technology.

The transformation of the Munich factory into an electric-only production facility represents a significant investment of around €650 million (A$1.05 billion). This overhaul includes the construction of new body shop and vehicle assembly facilities, covering about a third of the site.

The shift towards electric vehicles is part of BMW’s broader strategy, with Plant Munich set to exclusively produce fully electric models starting in 2027.

BMW’s Electric Future

The electric M3 will be the second Neue Klasse model to be produced in Munich, following the BMW i3 electric sedan. The company has already provided a glimpse of its electric M-car future with the M Concept Neue Klasse, unveiled in June 2026.

Featuring a quad-motor electric drivetrain with one motor per wheel, the concept car boasts BMW M Dynamic Performance Control software, enhancing power delivery and braking precision. This setup allows for independent control of power distribution and braking at each wheel, improving traction and torque vectoring.

With an 800-volt electrical architecture and a battery capacity exceeding 100kWh, the concept car sets the stage for BMW’s electrified performance vehicles.

While specific details about the production electric M3 remain undisclosed, reports suggest it could deliver around 750kW. BMW has not confirmed the exact power output of the electric M3 but has hinted that it will be positioned alongside a new petrol-powered version.

BMW’s commitment to innovation and sustainability is evident in its transition towards electric mobility. The production electric M3 is poised to deliver exhilarating performance while aligning with BMW’s core values and brand promise.

Stay tuned for more updates on the electric BMW M3 as BMW continues to drive forward with its electrification strategy.
