Exciting Updates: Google Android 17 QPR1 Beta 2 Now Available

Google is rolling out Android 17 QPR1 Beta 2 just two weeks after the initial release, but expectations should be tempered.

On April 23, we reported on the release of Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1, indicating Google’s testing of the first major update to the Android 17 OS, expected to officially roll out in June.

Google’s quarterly platform release (QPR) approach involves dropping major new features every few months, rather than saving them for an annual overhaul.

The first beta version of this initial Android 17 update didn’t offer much beyond bug fixes. So, what does the new version bring?

What does Android 17 QPR1 Beta 2 include?

If you were expecting more new features from the second beta, you’ll be disappointed. It’s primarily focused on fixing bugs.

However, Android 17 QPR1 Beta 2 addresses a significant number of bugs. Google’s release notes highlight nine key issues fixed, with a mention that this is not an exhaustive list.

The update resolves problems related to the Terminal app, lock screen text, conference calls, mobile signal indicators, custom themes, and more.

If you’re part of Google’s Android beta program and own a Pixel 6 or newer device, you can try out this early build. Unfortunately, the first Google Pixel Fold does not seem to be included.
