Exclusive: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Unveils Revolutionary Wide Camera Specs

New leaks regarding the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide reveal why it may not yet be a top contender in the foldable phone market.

The wider foldable launch from Samsung has been eagerly awaited. Alongside Apple’s rumored iPhone Ultra, which is expected to launch shortly after, it signals the dawn of a new, more tablet-like foldable experience.

However, one aspect that has raised concerns is the camera setup. Early leaks suggest that Samsung is planning to introduce a dual camera system instead of the triple setup seen in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Recent reports from SamMobile and Dutch website GalaxyClub have confirmed this change in the camera configuration.

Rumors suggest that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will sport two 50Mp cameras – one for regular wide shots with an f/1.8 aperture and another for ultra-wide landscape shots with an f/1.9 aperture.

There will be no dedicated telephoto lens, requiring users to crop in on the main sensor for close-up shots. Without the 200Mp sensor of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, this cropping technique may yield limited results.

Both cameras are expected to feature autofocus and support up to 8K video recording at 30fps.

According to the reports, the Fold 8 Wide will include dual 10Mp selfie cameras, one on the internal display and one on the external screen, a feature shared with the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Second-tier foldable

Based on the leaked dummy units for the iPhone Ultra, which is expected to have a similar form factor, Apple’s wide foldable is likely to face similar camera limitations.

Additional specifications for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide include a high-end Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, an initial configuration of 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and a potentially larger 4,800mAh battery compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Recent reports indicate that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will be unveiled alongside its foldable counterparts, the Galaxy Watch 9, and the Galaxy Glasses, at a London-based Unpacked event on July 22.

It has been revealed that Samsung’s upcoming foldable devices could be among the first to come pre-installed with Google’s Gemini Intelligence feature.
