Exploring the Enhanced Features of Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3

Google has released Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3 at Google I/O, bringing new UI elements alongside the usual bug fixes.

The first stable version of Android 17 is anticipated to be rolled out in the next month or so. However, Google is already progressing through the beta releases for Android 17 QPR1, which will serve as the foundation for the major Pixel Drop update in September.

The latest beta version requires enrollment in the Android beta program but is compatible with all Pixel phones from Google Pixel 6 to the current Google Pixel 10 range.

New animations

Google has introduced several new animations in the latest iteration of Android 17. Trigger the camera by double-pressing the power button, and the Camera UI will expand from the same side of the phone, pushing back the lock screen.

Additionally, there is a new ‘bouncy’ Quick Settings animation where the menu springs back slightly when pulled down.

More blur

Alongside the new animations, Google has incorporated more background blur effects into the latest Android 17 beta version. As previously noted, ‘Blur’ seems to be a central theme in Android 17’s visual design approach.

Google has introduced a new UI for media player controls in the Quick Settings menu. The new card layout provides a different method of switching between media apps through tapping instead of swiping.

The screen recording menu now defaults to the last used app, in addition to the inclusion of toggles for recording device audio and microphone.
