Ford’s New EV Platform: Integrating Apple Maps and BlueCruise Technology

Ford has announced plans to incorporate Apple Maps directly into its Universal Electric Vehicle Platform, starting with a $30,000 midsize pickup truck scheduled for release in 2027. This integration will provide drivers with turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates, intuitive search capabilities, and various routing options.

In addition to Apple Maps integration, the vehicle will feature an intelligent EV routing system and battery preconditioning. Ford assures that drivers will not require an iPhone to access Apple Maps within the vehicle, although CarPlay will still be an available option.

Ford has also revealed its collaboration with Apple to enhance the BlueCruise driver-assist system. Leveraging “road-level information” from Apple Maps, Ford aims to deliver a hands-free highway driving experience, from on-ramp to off-ramp. Meanwhile, Ford’s Latitude AI team is diligently working on an eyes-off unsupervised driving system expected to debut in 2028.

Addressing potential misconceptions, a Ford spokesperson clarified that Apple is not directly involved in the development of Ford’s autonomous driving technology. Ford’s autonomous subsidiary, Latitude AI, is responsible for the in-house development of the next-generation ADAS. Apple Maps will play a vital role in supporting the mapping aspect, while Ford retains ownership of the vehicle hardware, software, and driving system.
