Introducing Samsung and Google’s Next-Gen Gemini Smart Glasses

Samsung and Google have officially announced their re-entry into the smart glasses market, with their latest offerings powered by Gemini.

The focus on fashion in these new glasses sets them apart from previous Samsung and Google headsets, aligning them more closely with the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2), a dominant player in the rapidly expanding smart glasses market.

Similar to Meta, Google and Samsung have collaborated with fashion brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker in the design of these smart glasses.

Without a separate display, these glasses are meant to be used in conjunction with smartphones and built-in speakers for a hands-free, heads-up experience. The Android XR platform from Google and Gemini AI assistant will play a key role in their functionality.

Gemini, but on your face

Google and Samsung have not yet disclosed all the capabilities of these smart glasses, but hints from Samsung provide a glimpse into their potential.

Users can ask Gemini for shopping recommendations and directions while on the go. The glasses can also summarize texts and add events to calendars, all done hands-free.

The glasses can also be instructed to take photos without the need to use a phone.

Furthermore, users can enjoy real-time translations with the ability to translate text from menus or signs within their line of sight. The feedback will be delivered in a selected voice assigned to the glasses.

Samsung highlights that the glasses will seamlessly integrate with the broader Galaxy device ecosystem and are expected to be compatible with Pixel devices due to the partnership with Google.

The unnamed Samsung smart glasses are scheduled to launch in specific markets this fall, with more details, including pricing, to be unveiled in the coming months.
