Playing its mystery-drenched demo suggests I'll like everything about About Fishing, except the fishing

The Intriguing World of About Fishing: A Playable Marketing Masterpiece

Exploring the new demo of angler-detective mystery About Fishing was a captivating experience. This updated and expanded sampler, compared to its predecessor, offers a tale of mermaids, missing persons, and a creepy rural backdrop that keeps players absorbed without venturing into the realm of absurdity. Even with the introduction of a thieving goose, the game manages to maintain its eerie charm.

Despite the unsettling atmosphere, there is an undeniable allure to the game that makes players want to delve deeper into its world. However, there is one aspect that might deter some players – the excessive focus on fishing.

Similar to Arctic Eggs, the developers’ previous work, About Fishing introduces a unique gameplay mechanic that adds complexity to the otherwise mundane task of fishing. Players must skillfully maneuver their peripherals to keep their catches on the hook, adding an element of challenge to the game. Additionally, there are moments where players must perform trick shots to lure hidden fish out of their hiding spots.

Unfortunately, both actions feel imprecise and unpredictable. Maneuvering the hook mid-cast is akin to trying to sign your name on a passing wasp, while reeling in a thrashing fish requires a combination of luck and skill. The game’s camera adds to the frustration by occasionally bumping into scenery, further complicating the fishing process.

However, About Fishing introduces a unique twist to its gameplay with the use of tackle. Players can send out successfully caught fish as scouts for subaquatic exploration and puzzle-solving. This mechanic adds a new dimension to the game and allows players to engage in more than just fishing.

While the fishing aspect may not be everyone’s cup of tea, the game offers enough variety and intrigue to keep players engaged. The ability to control fish scouts for exploration adds a fun and challenging element to the gameplay. Plus, not many games can pull off showing a goose eating curly fries in a genuinely disturbing manner.
