The Elder Scrolls VI Development Update

Bethesda Game Studios has provided an update on the progress of The Elder Scrolls VI amidst recent reports of layoffs affecting key team members.

“The next chapter is on the way. We’re on track, excited about its development, and actively playing it daily,” stated Bethesda in a recent studio communication.

The studio confirmed that The Elder Scrolls VI is now the primary focus of development, with the majority of the team dedicated to bringing this highly-anticipated sequel to life.

Initially teased nearly eight years ago, details on The Elder Scrolls VI have been scarce, with sporadic updates from key figures like director Todd Howard, who expressed a desire for a later announcement despite the game being in a playable and enjoyable state.

Bethesda acknowledged the extended gap since the release of Skyrim, which has amassed over 65 million sales in the past 15 years. Reports of key developers being impacted by recent layoffs within Xbox raised concerns about the project’s progress and morale at Bethesda.

The company also revealed that ZeniMax Online Studios will collaborate more closely with Bethesda Game Studios on the broader franchise, aiming to enhance the overall player experience across The Elder Scrolls series while continuing to support The Elder Scrolls Online.

The Elder Scrolls VI is being crafted using Creation Engine 3, an updated version of Bethesda’s proprietary technology that has been in development since the launch of Starfield.
