OpenRouter Raises $113 Million in Series B Funding Led by CapitalG

In a significant development, OpenRouter, a leading AI gateway maker founded in 2023, has successfully secured a substantial $113 million in Series B funding. The round was led by CapitalG, the growth venture fund of Alphabet, Google’s parent company. Although the company did not disclose its new valuation, reports from The New York Times suggest that it now stands at approximately $1.3 billion post-money.

This latest funding round marks a substantial increase from the company’s estimated $547 million post-money valuation just a year ago. Following a $40 million Series A funding round in June 2025, which was spearheaded by Andreessen Horowitz and Menlo Ventures, with participation from Sequoia, OpenRouter has witnessed remarkable growth and popularity.

Driving Innovation in AI Technology

Over the past year, the landscape of AI technology has evolved significantly, shifting from training to inference and now focusing on agents. OpenRouter’s AI gateway has been at the forefront of this evolution, catering to the needs of enterprises and AI users seeking diverse models for various tasks to optimize costs and enhance performance.

With access to a wide range of models, including Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, xAI, and DeepSeek, OpenRouter has garnered 8 million global users and processes a staggering 100 trillion tokens per month. This represents a remarkable 5x increase from just six months ago when the company was processing 5 trillion tokens per week.

The Rise of Multi-Model AI Solutions

OpenRouter’s success signals a shift towards a future where AI models serve as interchangeable engines for diverse tasks. Unlike the standardization seen in SaaS providers, companies are embracing a multi-model approach, avoiding vendor lock-in and promoting flexibility in selecting models based on specific requirements.
