Pixelgen Technologies Raises €13.26 Million to Enhance Cell-Surface Protein Mapping Technology in Stockholm
Pixelgen Technologies Secures €13.26 Million Series B Funding Round
Pixelgen Technologies, a cutting-edge life sciences company based in Stockholm, has successfully closed a Series B funding round, raising an impressive €13.26 million ($15.5 million). The round was oversubscribed, showcasing strong investor confidence in the company’s innovative approach.
Leading the investment in this round is Flat Capital, a new investor, with continued support from existing investors Industrifonden and Navigare Ventures. As part of the funding, Pixelgen welcomes Rickard El Tarzi, CEO of Flat Capital, and life sciences expert Ramon Felciano, Ph.D., to its board of directors.
“This financing allows us to expand our global presence in response to the increasing demand for our Proxiome Kit and data analysis software. We are excited to have Flat Capital on board, along with the continued backing of Navigare and Industrifonden. Their support will drive our commercial growth, team expansion, and product development, enabling us to bring molecular cell architecture solutions to more researchers and applications,” stated Pixelgen CEO and co-founder Simon Fredriksson, Ph.D.
Founded in 2020 by a team of experts including Fredriksson, Alvaro Martinez Barrio, Ph.D., Fredrik Dahl, Ph.D., and Filip Karlsson, Pixelgen Technologies emerged from stealth mode in December 2022 following a successful Seed round that raised approximately €5.13 million ($6 million), led by Navigare Ventures.
Revolutionizing Molecular Cell Architecture Mapping
Pixelgen Technologies specializes in advancing beyond traditional abundance measurements to capture the intricate architectural features of cell state, disease, and treatment response across various fields such as immunology, haematology, oncology, and cell therapy.
The company’s Proxiome Kit stands out as the first high-throughput platform capable of mapping molecular cell architecture at nanoscale resolution. This unique capability empowers researchers to delve into cell functionality and disease mechanisms in a novel way.
Differentiating itself from conventional proteomic methods that primarily focus on protein abundance, Pixelgen’s Proxiome Kit reveals the organization, clustering, and localization of proteins on individual cell surfaces. Additionally, the company has developed the Proximity Network Assay, enabling comprehensive analysis of cell surface architecture at a high-dimensional level.
Leveraging the power of the Proximity Network Assay, the Proxiome Kit empowers researchers to explore architectural features of cell states, diseases, and treatment responses that go beyond mere abundance measurements.
Future Growth and Innovation
“Pixelgen’s technology presents a groundbreaking approach to studying disease mechanisms and identifying novel biomarkers. This could potentially revolutionize research in cancer, immunology, autoimmune diseases, and broaden our understanding of fundamental biology. With Pixelgen’s experienced leadership team and successful track record in global life sciences product commercialization, we are excited to support the company as it enters its next phase of growth,” commented Rickard El Tarzi, CEO of Flat Capital.
The newly secured funding will enable Pixelgen to accelerate the global commercialization of its Proxiome Kit and expand its market presence in key regions.
Recognition and Future Ventures
In June 2025, Pixelgen announced receiving a grant and equity financing worth €12.5 million ($14.7 million) from the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator. Additionally, in October 2023, the company closed a Series A financing round of approximately €6.24 million ($7.3 million), led by Industrifonden and Navigare Ventures.
