Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic is a collaborative effort between the original developer ZUN and creators of popular Touhou fangames. This remake retains the essence of the original game while offering updated graphics and a remastered soundtrack. Players once again step into the shoes of a shrine maiden or a witch on a mission to defeat a troublesome vampire.

The New Classic version introduces a new stage and updated character artwork, staying true to the classic Touhou gameplay of intense 2D bullet hell battles accompanied by catchy tunes. This version marks the franchise’s debut on Steam and includes a full English translation, making it accessible to a wider audience.

One of Touhou’s unique aspects is its incorporation of characters inspired by Asian and Western folklore, from vampires to deities. The game offers not only challenging gameplay but also a cultural learning experience. Additionally, newer entries in the series delve into complex themes such as fossil fuel reliance and artificial intelligence.

What sets Touhou apart is its openness to fan creations, as long as they adhere to certain guidelines. Developers behind Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic have also worked on popular fan games like Touhou: Luna Nights, offering a different gameplay experience for fans.
