Samsung Galaxy S24 Battery Safety Concerns Spark Investigation

An alarming incident involving a Samsung Galaxy S24 has brought back memories of Samsung’s infamous Galaxy Note 7 battery issue.

In South Korea, a Reddit user by the name of chocho-789 made a shocking claim on 11 May, stating that their Galaxy S24 exploded in their hand while they were using it normally to browse the internet.

The user mentioned that the phone was not charging, had not been dropped, repaired, or opened before the incident occurred.

Visual evidence provided by the user shows the scorched handset on fire and its damaged state after the explosion, along with claims of witness testimonies and video footage.

Medical records confirm the user suffered minor burn blisters and smoke inhalation symptoms as a result of the incident.

The Galaxy S24 was purchased as an official unlocked device through Samsung Partners in South Korea on 11 June, 2024.

Samsung is yet to release a statement on the matter, but a local service center representative has been in touch with the user for further investigation through forensic analysis.

Authorities investigating the incident noted signs consistent with lithium battery ignition, reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 debacle in 2016.
