Security Alert: Android Bug Allows Unauthorized Messages to be Sent

A recent report by The Register has revealed that a security vulnerability affecting Android devices, including Google’s Pixel phones, has been discovered. However, exploiting this bug would require direct access to the smartphone, such as in cases of theft or loss.

To safeguard your device against this vulnerability, it is recommended to restrict Gemini’s access to your lock screen. This can be done by opening the Gemini app on your Android device, navigating to Settings after tapping your profile picture, and choosing ‘Gemini on lock screen’. Here, disable the options ‘Use Gemini without unlocking’ or ‘Reply on lock screen’.

Furthermore, you can limit Gemini’s access to specific apps and features by selecting ‘Gemini App Activity’ and then ‘Extensions’. Deselect any apps that you prefer Gemini not to access, such as Google Messages, email apps, or WhatsApp.

According to a Google spokesperson, a solution to the issue has been identified and will be included in an upcoming Android update scheduled for release later this week. It is essential to keep your device’s Android version up to date to promptly receive such security fixes.
