Surviving the Undead: Crafting a Smarter Zombie in Stupid Never Dies, Building a Community in Cutout Village, and Exploring the Final Frontier in Star Trek: Outposts Unknown
Greetings, fellow gamers! Another exciting week of PC gaming lies ahead, filled with new releases and adrenaline-pumping adventures. As I sit here typing, the irritating sound of a neighbor’s leafblower fills the air. I despise leafblowers – they are like infernal hairdryers, disrupting my thoughts just like the minuscule amount of leaves in my neighbor’s yard. It’s a task that could easily be done by hand in a matter of minutes, if only they had a bit of motivation.
Perhaps releasing vipers into the neighbor’s shed would solve the noise issue, but alas, I lack the necessary vipers at the moment. Instead, I must focus on compiling this list of new PC games for your enjoyment. So, let’s dive into the latest releases while I contemplate acquiring some venomous companions.
Monday 19th October
- Launching in early access today, Athanasia combines elements of Dino Crisis and System Shock to create a unique prehistoric gaming experience that can serve as a valuable distraction.
- Warding Witches offers a twist on the traditional bullet hell genre, providing players with shielding abilities in place of the usual screen-clearing bombs.
Tuesday 20th October
- Star Trek: Outposts Unknown takes the Star Trek universe to new heights by focusing on ground-based gameplay and building construction. Who knows, maybe a Klingon diplomacy simulator is next in line? (I’m looking at you, game developers!)
- We Were Here Tomorrow presents a cooperative escape game set in an 80s Antarctic base, where players must navigate asymmetrical puzzles using walkie talkies for communication. Don’t forget your microphone!
- A Sister’s Journey may sound like a somber narrative adventure, but it surprises players with a fast-paced metroidvania experience featuring stunning waterfalls and weather effects.
- Available in early access today, Baron immerses players in an open-world mafia setting in Ankara.
Wednesday 21st October
- Stupid Never Dies introduces players to a limb-swapping action RPG led by former Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi. As a zombie on a mission to revive your girlfriend, you can enhance your abilities by grafting parts of stronger monsters onto yourself. The DLC-enriched “Glorious Idiot” edition is out now, but I recommend waiting for the base game release on Friday for a more budget-friendly option.
- WOIM challenges players with a sokoban puzzle experience where you control an earthworm devouring dirt blocks and strategically navigating the environment. It’s not easy being a worm!
- Cutout Village offers a unique city-building experience where players must cut, fold, and glue together houses to create a thriving village. Who knew scissors could be so versatile?
Thursday 22nd October
- Final Fantasy Resonance marks Square Enix’s foray into the “HD-2D” realm with a classic Final Fantasy adventure featuring old-school character sprites in a modern 3D environment. Explore familiar elements like moogles, airships, and a new stagger system inspired by Octopath Traveler.
- One Piece: Grand Gourmet invites players to manage a pocket-sized world in a laid-back simulation game from the creators of Game Dev Story. Dive into the vibrant world of One Piece, complete with charming animation and quirky characters.
- Moadra offers a unique spin on the Metroidvania genre, drawing inspiration from the art style of Prince of Persia: Warrior Within for a visually stunning experience.
Friday 23rd October
- Prepare for a wild adventure in Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest, where players must battle thug squirrels in a procedurally generated world. This adaptation of the beloved book series features turn-based combat and multiplayer elements for a truly immersive experience.
As we look ahead, our minds are filled with thoughts of end-of-year lists, advancements in artificial intelligence, the dark future of gaming, and intriguing new releases. If you know of any exceptional games we may have missed, feel free to share them with us. And who knows, maybe one day we’ll see a game that captures the essence of a leafblower like the unique city-rover Babbdi.
