Suunto’s Revolutionary Screenless Tracker Challenges Fitbit Air in Leak to Tech Rival
Is the Fitbit Air facing its biggest challenge yet?
Renowned for its top-of-the-line running watches, the Finnish company may be venturing into a new territory based on a recent certification by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) in Singapore.
Recently discovered by Wearable Fans, a new device referred to as HR264 has been certified as a ‘heart rate monitor’. Not only do we have a description of the device, but leaked regulatory photos have also given us a glimpse of what it might look like.
The leaked images reveal a compact, rectangular device with loops on either side for attaching a band. The back of the device features a four-pronged charging system that bears a striking resemblance to that of the Suunto 9.
Although the device seems to only come in black, there are two loop bands included – one in black and another in a lighter shade of grey, reminiscent of the Garmin Cirqa in French Grey.
Additional certifications in Russia and the United Arab Emirates further support the existence of this device. With the certification process underway, a potential release may be on the horizon, possibly before the year ends.
While the specific features of Suunto’s screenless tracker remain unknown, if the brand’s track record with running watches is any indication, the Fitbit Air could be facing one of its strongest competitors yet.
