The Battle of Smartwatches: Galaxy Watch 9 vs. Pixel Watch 5

The tech world is abuzz with the upcoming release of the Galaxy Watch 9 and Pixel Watch 5. One significant upgrade in the Galaxy Watch 9 is the shift from Samsung’s Exynos processor to the cutting-edge Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear Elite. This move positions it as the first smartwatch to feature this new engine, promising enhanced performance and efficiency.

On the other hand, leaked specifications of the Pixel Watch 5, codenamed ‘godric,’ paint a less optimistic picture. The device is rumored to continue using the Qualcomm SW5100, also known as the Snapdragon W5, the same chipset utilized in its predecessor, the Pixel Watch 4.

Although the Pixel Watch 5 may retain the core chip of its predecessor, the listing hints at a possible upgrade in the RAM department, from 2GB to 3GB. This improvement could translate to enhanced overall performance and user experience.

However, with a 4nm manufacturing process compared to the Snapdragon Wear Elite’s 3nm, the Pixel Watch 5 might lag behind the Galaxy Watch 9 in terms of performance and battery life. Longevity is a crucial factor to consider, especially when running newer versions of Wear OS on older devices.

The highly anticipated Made by Google event scheduled for August will not only unveil the Pixel 11 series of phones but also introduce the Pixel Watch 5. The new smartwatch is expected to come in two sizes, featuring a design similar to the Pixel Watch 4 and a probable price increase.
