Tensive Receives €20 Million Loan from European Investment Bank for Innovative Breast Reconstruction Technology

A Milan-based MedTech startup, Tensive, known for developing bioresorbable scaffolds for breast reconstruction and tissue marking, has secured a €20 million loan to support its research and development efforts. The loan, part of a €40 million financing plan, was provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB) through the InvestEU programme.

Sanjay Kakkar, MD, Chief Executive Officer of Tensive, expressed gratitude for the EIB’s support, stating, “The EIB has examined our clinical evidence and our regulatory file in detail and has committed €20 million to enable us to take REGENERA from our recently reported positive pivotal clinical results to a product in the hands of European surgeons.” Kakkar highlighted the importance of this funding in advancing their equity financing and bringing their innovative solution to women in need of breast reconstruction options.

Tensive’s loan comes at a time of significant financing activities in the European medical devices and regenerative technologies sector. Other notable investments include funds allocated to companies like Xeltis, FineHeart, SamanTree Medical, and ScreenPoint Medical.

Gelsomina Vigliotti, EIB Vice President, emphasized the importance of supporting European innovation in health, particularly in women’s health. She stated, “This financing will help Tensive advance its promising regenerative technology with the potential to address important unmet medical needs in breast cancer care.

Revolutionizing Breast Reconstruction with REGENERA

Founded in 2012, Tensive focuses on developing bioresorbable polymeric scaffolds for breast reconstruction and tissue marking. Their flagship product, REGENERA, offers a natural and lasting solution for patients undergoing lumpectomy or cosmetic procedures.

REGENERA’s bioresorbable scaffold eliminates the need for additional surgeries by gradually being replaced by the patient’s own tissue. This innovative approach not only simplifies the reconstruction process but also preserves the patient’s original breast shape and feel.

Furthermore, REGENERA’s unique properties enable precise delivery of radiotherapy and accurate surveillance, enhancing post-surgery care for patients.

Future Plans and Regulatory Approval

With the EIB’s financial support, Tensive aims to complete the development and launch of REGENERA in the EU and U.S. The company is actively seeking additional investments from institutional and global investors to fulfill their financing requirements.

Tensive recently reported positive outcomes from their ongoing pivotal trial, demonstrating the effectiveness and safety of REGENERA in breast reconstruction. The company anticipates receiving EU regulatory approval for REGENERA by early 2027.

Overall, Tensive’s innovative approach to breast reconstruction offers hope for women seeking natural and reliable solutions after lumpectomy, setting a new standard in the field of MedTech.
