Amazon’s search bar will invent AI-generated products you can’t buy

Amazon Introduces AI-Generated Images in Search Bar

Amazon has recently updated its search bar to display AI-generated images of products based on user descriptions. Currently, this feature is limited to showcasing AI images of clothing and home goods. Users can simply tap on the image that closely matches their search query to explore similar items.

Enhanced Search Experience with AI Technology

In a blog post, Amazon highlights the convenience of using AI-generated images when users are unable to recall specific product names or details. For instance, instead of searching for a “cowl neck” shirt, users can describe it as a “shirt with a draped collar.” While this feature proves beneficial in such scenarios, it may not significantly impact searches for generic items like a “blue t-shirt.”

AI in Product Recommendations

Amazon’s “shop by style” feature incorporates AI-generated collages to suggest clothing items users are looking for. For example, a search for denim shorts will display a carousel of outfit suggestions featuring denim shorts. While the outfits are AI-generated, the clothing items themselves are real and available for purchase. These innovative features are set to launch on Amazon’s Android and iOS apps.
