Expanse Secures €4.5 Million Seed Funding Round to Expand AI Infrastructure
Expanse, a leading AI infrastructure company, has announced a successful €4.5 million ($5.3 million) Seed funding round aimed at boosting its engineering team, accelerating product development, and expanding its industry reach.
The funding was spearheaded by Crane Venture Partners, with contributions from PXN Ventures, AIP Seed, and notable angel investors, including former DeepMind researchers.
“Today, every AI workload begins with an educated guess,” stated Ismaeel Bashir, co-founder and CEO of Expanse. “Engineers should not have to predict the exact compute requirements of their code before running it. The machine should handle the uncertainty, not the individual.”
Expanse’s Seed funding aligns with the broader 2026 investments in infrastructure and software layers aimed at enhancing the availability and efficiency of AI compute.
EU-Startups recently reported on other companies in this space, such as Callosum in London securing €85.4 million, Ora Computing in Vienna securing €3.5 million, Verda in Helsinki raising €100 million, and Nscale in London closing a €1.7 billion Series C funding round.
Additional funding rounds in 2026 include AI Infrastructure Capital AG in Switzerland raising €16 million, Danish startup Velatir securing €5 million, and Prague’s Zerops receiving €1.7 million.
Collectively, these 2026 investments total approximately €1.91 billion, with Expanse contributing an additional €4.5 million to the overall funding landscape.
The UK is prominently featured in this group, with companies like Nscale and Callosum developing software to efficiently allocate AI workloads across available compute resources.
The announcement from Expanse comes on the heels of Crane Venture Partners unveiling their €419 million investment across four new vehicles.
“The future of AI will not only be determined by who builds the largest clusters but by those who utilize them most intelligently,” added Scott Sage, co-founder and Partner at Crane Venture Partners. “Expanse offers organizations a level of certainty that is currently lacking. By accurately predicting workload requirements prior to execution, customers can optimize existing capacity, reduce waste, and prolong the lifespan of valuable infrastructure. We believe this represents a significant advancement in AI infrastructure.”
Established in 2025, Expanse’s software predicts the resource needs of AI workloads before they are executed, enabling organizations to reduce over-allocation, prevent job failures, and maximize the value of their GPU infrastructure.
Expanse was founded by four engineers who previously managed large-scale compute infrastructure in various fields. Ismaeel Bashir, a co-founder, developed a resource prediction system at the Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre (EPCC) that accurately forecasted resource requirements across HPC workloads. Together with co-founders Nikodem Bieniek, Eren Mendi, and Yafet Melake, they recognized the need to move beyond manual estimation in resource allocation.
Unlike traditional monitoring platforms, Expanse operates proactively before workload execution, analyzing workloads within the customer’s environment to optimize performance while safeguarding data privacy.
Andy Barrow, Managing Director of PXN Ventures, expressed support for Expanse’s mission to help businesses optimize their compute resources, reduce costs, and enhance scalability.
One notable success story involved Expanse identifying nearly €6.9 million ($8 million) of idle compute capacity in a single month in a production deployment.
With the new funding, Expanse plans to grow its engineering team, expedite product development, and expand its platform across various sectors, including AI infrastructure, quantitative finance, life sciences, research, and high-performance computing.
