Ubisoft Proposes Closure of RedLynx, Developer of Trials Franchise
Ubisoft has put forward a proposal for the closure of RedLynx, the Finnish developer behind the popular Trials franchise. This decision would result in the unfortunate loss of 52 jobs.
RedLynx was acquired by Ubisoft back in 2011 and has since released several Trials games, with their latest installment being Trials Rising in 2019. Following this release, the studio shifted its focus towards supporting other Ubisoft studios rather than developing their own games.
Our review of Trials Rising awarded the game a solid 8/10 rating, praising its return to the franchise’s roots with a fresh set of challenging trials inspired by real-world scenarios. The game managed to maintain RedLynx’s signature dark sense of humor throughout.
Additionally, Ubisoft has announced further workforce reductions at Ubisoft Singapore.
According to Ubisoft, “70 positions have been impacted at Ubisoft Singapore to better align the studio with upcoming production requirements. Despite these changes, the studio remains a crucial part of Ubisoft’s global production network. We appreciate the contributions of all team members and understand the impact this decision may have on our colleagues. We are dedicated to supporting our teams during this transition with utmost care and respect.”
The job cuts at Ubisoft Singapore account for approximately one-fifth of the studio’s workforce. Notably, Ubisoft Singapore is best known for its work on Skull and Bones, a game that faced significant development challenges over its nearly thirteen-year production timeline.
