Brazilian federal authorities uncovered a sophisticated money laundering operation worth $320 million with the help of an iCloud backup. The operation involved influencers and musicians as key players.

The investigation initially focused on illegal gambling and international drug trafficking. The arrest of accountant Rodrigo Morgado provided access to his iCloud backup, where evidence of the money laundering scheme was found.

The discovery led to 39 temporary arrest warrants and 45 search and seizure warrants across eight states and Brazil’s federal district. The group involved is accused of laundering millions through various illegal activities.

Authorities utilized data from the iCloud backup to unravel the complex structure of the group. They analyzed conversations, financial documents, and other records to establish connections between shell companies, influencers, and artists implicated in the scheme.

Notable arrests included musicians MC Ryan SP and MC Poze do Rodo, as well as influencers Raphael Sousa Oliveira and Chrys Dias. Luxury cars, watches, jewelry, and other assets linked to the scheme were seized.

Additional warrants were issued to access data stored on electronic devices seized during the operation, including iCloud and Google Drive accounts. This move aims to uncover more evidence related to the money laundering activities.

Rodrigo Morgado’s reliance on iCloud security inadvertently aided the authorities in dismantling the organization.
