2027 Lexus TZ: Unveiling the Ultimate Three-Row Electric Luxury SUV
Lexus has recently revealed its first-ever three-row electric SUV, the TZ, which is set to compete with popular models like the Volvo EX90 and Cadillac Vistiq in the US market by late 2026. This new model is expected to offer a range of up to 300 miles on a single charge, thanks to its standard dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain.
The TZ is positioned as the electric alternative to the North American-exclusive three-row Lexus TX, similar to the relationship between the Lexus RX and RZ models sold in Australia. Built on the TNGA platform, the TZ shares batteries and dimensions with the recently unveiled Toyota Highlander EV, making it a close cousin to the three-row Subaru Getaway as well.
Unlike the US-built models, the TZ is reportedly going to be produced and launched in Japan this year, potentially opening up the possibility for a right-hand drive version for markets like Australia. Lexus Australia has expressed interest in the TZ, stating that they are assessing the model for potential introduction.
While full specifications are yet to be confirmed, Lexus has announced that the TZ will come with two lithium-ion battery options – 76.96kWh or 95.82kWh – similar to those offered in the Toyota Highlander EV. These batteries will feature preconditioning technology to optimize temperature and an intelligent charging schedule based on driver habits.
The TZ will only be available in a dual-motor all-wheel drive configuration, distinguishing it from the Highlander. This setup is expected to deliver performance similar to the Subaru Getaway, which boasts up to 313kW of power and rapid acceleration.
In terms of features, the TZ promises a luxurious interior with advanced technology, including a new Lexus Interface infotainment system, premium sound system, and various driving modes. Sustainable materials have been integrated into the cabin, such as ‘forged bamboo’ surfaces and recycled elements.
Externally, the TZ’s design is distinct from the Highlander, featuring unique styling elements inspired by the Lexus GX model. The model lineup is expected to include different variants, with the possibility of a higher-spec ‘TZ550e’ model alongside the ‘TZ450e’.
Overall, the TZ represents the latest addition to the Toyota/Subaru/Lexus EV trio, offering a premium three-row electric SUV option for consumers. With a focus on sustainability, luxury, and performance, the TZ is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market.
