Chery's Luxeed confirmed for Australia, luxury people mover due in 2027

Chery’s expansion in Australia is set to introduce a new luxury brand, Luxeed, with plans for a large people mover to arrive in the second quarter of 2027. Shawn Xu, CEO of Omoda & Jaecoo International, revealed the Australian launch of Luxeed at an event in China on October 21.

The initial model to be introduced is the Luxeed LLounge people mover, followed by the Luxeed Stormax electric SUV. The exact release date for the SUV in Australia is yet to be confirmed. This announcement comes shortly after Chery confirmed the introduction of another premium brand, Exlantix, in the local market.

Luxeed and Exlantix will join Freelander, iCaur, and Jetour as part of the lineup of Chery Group brands entering the Australian market. These new brands will complement the existing Chery and Omoda Jaecoo brands.

Luxeed’s pricing and specifications for the Australian market have not been disclosed yet. However, based on the vehicles showcased overseas, Luxeed will compete in the same segment as Chinese luxury brands Denza and Zeekr.

The Luxeed LLounge, which is the international version of China’s Luxeed V9, offers seven seats in a 2+2+3 layout and features a range-extended electric powertrain. The vehicle boasts advanced features such as dual-chamber air suspension, adaptive dampers, and rear-wheel steering for enhanced maneuverability.

The Luxeed Stormax, known as the RX in China, will be the second model introduced by Luxeed in Australia. This performance-focused SUV features an 800V electric architecture, dual-motor all-wheel drive, and impressive power outputs.

Luxeed’s international models will undergo technical modifications to cater to the Australian market, with no association with Huawei’s technology. The brand’s vehicles will not feature Huawei-branded infotainment or driver assistance systems.

Separate from Luxeed, Exlantix is also preparing to enter the Australian market with the ES GT shooting brake and new ET SUV. Additionally, Freelander is set to launch the Freelander 8 plug-in hybrid model in 2027.

iCaur and Jetour are also making their debut in Australia, with iCaur’s V25 SUV and Jetour’s T1 and T2 SUVs receiving Australian Design Rule approval for an anticipated early-2027 release.

In conclusion, Chery’s expansion in Australia will bring a diverse range of luxury brands to the market, offering consumers a wide selection of premium vehicles to choose from.
