Ultimate Power in Your Hands: The $4,299 Ayaneo Windows Handheld
Ayaneo Next 2: The Ultimate Windows Handheld Powerhouse
Ayaneo has recently unveiled its latest Windows 11 handheld, the Ayaneo Next 2, available for preorders. This new device is a true powerhouse, boasting impressive specifications that set it apart from its competitors.
Measuring 13.45 inches wide, 10.3 inches tall, and weighing 3.14 pounds, the Ayaneo Next 2 is significantly larger and heavier than its predecessor, the original Ayaneo Next, which was launched in 2022. In fact, it surpasses the weight of popular handheld devices like the Steam Deck and Switch 2, making it a top choice for those who prioritize performance over portability.
The Ayaneo Next 2 comes with a starting price of $1,999 for the base model, equipped with a Ryzen AI Max 385 processor, integrated Radeon 8050S graphics, 32GB of memory, and 1TB of SSD storage. However, early bird pricing on Indiegogo brings the cost down to $1,799 for a limited time. For those looking to max out the device’s capabilities, the top-tier model is priced at $4,299 (or $3,499 with early bird discounts), featuring an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, Radeon 8060S iGPU, 128GB of memory, and 2TB of storage.
Impressive Display and Controls
The Ayaneo Next 2 sports a 9.06-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2,400×1,504, offering an adjustable refresh rate ranging from 60Hz to 165Hz and a peak brightness of 1,155 nits. In comparison, the Switch 2’s LCD screen pales in comparison, maxing out at around 450 nits of brightness.
The device is equipped with a range of controls, including TMR joysticks with adjustable torque and ring lighting, Hall effect triggers that can be customized for FPS games, an eight-direction D-pad, dual smart touchpads, and various buttons, including some on the back. Additionally, it features front-facing stereo speakers and a pair of USB-C ports, a microSD card slot, and a headphone jack for connectivity.
Performance and Battery Life
The Ayaneo Next 2 is cooled by dual fans and powered by a robust 116Wh rechargeable battery, contributing to its overall weight. While details about battery life and gaming performance on a single charge are yet to be disclosed, the device’s high-performance settings suggest an immersive gaming experience. It’s worth noting that the device’s battery size exceeds the 100Wh limit for carry-on devices, so travelers should seek approval from airlines before bringing it on long-haul flights.
