BMW Announces Recall of 58,700 Vehicles Due to Air Conditioning Wiring Problems
BMW North America has issued a recall for over 58,700 vehicles due to issues with the air conditioning wiring system. The affected vehicles were manufactured between the 2024 and 2026 model years, as reported in documents filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
According to the recall document, certain BMW models may have an air conditioning wiring harness that could have been damaged during the replacement of the cabin air filter. This damage could lead to a short circuit in the wiring harness, increasing the risk of a fire.
The recall includes various BMW models, such as the M5 Touring, M5 sedan, 550 xDrive, i5, 7 series, i7, and 750e xDrive. Owners of the affected vehicles will receive notification letters on April 13 with instructions to take their cars to the nearest dealership for inspection of the air conditioning wiring harness. Any damaged wiring harnesses will be replaced during the inspection.
To prevent future incidents related to the recall, a new retainer clip will be installed on all affected models. The inspection and replacement processes will be done at no cost to the owners. Those who want to check if their vehicle is affected before April 13 can contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417. The NHTSA tool for checking the status of the vehicle will be available on April 13.
