Exclusive Arrival: Cupra Born VZ Lands in Australia – But There’s a Twist!
The Cupra Born VZ: A Rare Find Down Under
The Cupra Born VZ, a battery-powered hot hatch, has been a long-awaited addition to the Spanish auto brand’s lineup in Australia. After much anticipation, the first and only example of this unique vehicle has finally made its way to Australian shores.
Sold by Cupra Artarmon, located near Sydney, this Dark Forest green hatch comes with a hefty price tag of $71,990 plus on-road costs. It is the sole VZ unit in Australia, selling for over $15,000 more than the standard Born model that was last available in the country.
This particular Born VZ is believed to be a production-spec vehicle registered for evaluation purposes in the Australian market. A similar car was showcased in Melbourne last July during a launch event for the Cupra Terramar SUV.
Despite being listed on the dealer’s website for just a day before being snapped up by a keen customer, the future availability of the Born in Australia remains uncertain. The facelifted 2027 model has recently been revealed, hinting at a potential return to the market.
Featuring a rear-mounted electric motor producing 240kW of power and 545Nm of torque, the Born VZ is the most powerful version of the electric hatchback globally. It boasts impressive acceleration, going from 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds and reaching a top speed of 200km/h.
Enhancements under the hood include a 79kWh battery pack and a new DCC Sport chassis setup with revised dampers, anti-roll bars, and rear springs. Exterior upgrades include wider tires and a choice of 20-inch alloy wheels designs.
Inside the cabin, the Born VZ features bucket seats made from recycled materials and an upsized 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with the latest Cupra operating system. The technology levels have been significantly improved over the base model.
While Cupra Australia is still evaluating the feasibility and timing of offering the new Born in the market, the global lineup includes various motor and battery configurations with impressive WLTP range figures. The facelifted models promise around 600km of range.
After facing several delays, the Born VZ has finally made its way to Australia, albeit in limited numbers. Cupra Australia’s plans to launch the hot hatch have been on hold, awaiting the availability of the facelifted model before making a full reboot of the electric hatch Down Under.
For those eager to explore the Cupra Born showroom and experience the latest in electric hot hatch technology, the arrival of the VZ in Australia is a promising sign of things to come.
