Microsoft Unveils Enhanced Copilot with Integrated AI Models
Microsoft Introduces New Feature Using Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s GPT
A groundbreaking new feature from Microsoft leverages Anthropic’s Claude to evaluate and rectify the output of OpenAI’s GPT. This innovative approach combines Microsoft’s latest AI partnerships to enhance the adoption of Microsoft 365 Copilot tools within the business sector.
The company unveiled this exciting capability on Monday, introducing updates to the Microsoft 365 Copilot’s Researcher agent. The new feature, Critique, involves a sequential process where GPT generates a response to a research query, which is then reviewed by Claude for accuracy, completeness, and citation quality before being presented to the user.
This methodology reflects a growing trend in utilizing multiple AI models to enhance outcomes. Microsoft envisions a future where the process will operate bidirectionally, with Claude drafting and GPT critiquing.
The adoption of a multi-model approach has resulted in a significant 13.8% enhancement on the DRACO benchmark, a key metric for deep research quality. This places Microsoft ahead of standalone deep-research tools from industry players like OpenAI, Google, Perplexity, and Anthropic.
Microsoft’s announcement aligns with its efforts to accelerate Copilot adoption among its vast base of business clientele. Despite reporting 15 million paid Copilot seats in January, representing around 3.3% of its 450 million commercial Microsoft 365 users, the company aims for wider adoption.
This development comes amidst heightened competition in the enterprise AI landscape, with Google expanding Gemini across its Workspace apps, Anthropic’s Claude gaining traction in the business sector, and OpenAI promoting ChatGPT Enterprise and its deep-research tools.
Microsoft also disclosed the availability of Copilot Cowork, a new tool designed for delegating complex, multi-step tasks within Microsoft 365, through its Frontier early access program. Leveraging technology from Anthropic’s Claude Cowork, this product was initially announced earlier this month.
