Uncertainty Looms: Sony’s PS6 Launch Date and Price Still Undecided
Sony Denies Rumors of PlayStation 6 Launch
Sony has recently put an end to speculations about the release of PlayStation 6 during their latest earnings call. The company’s president and CEO, Hiroki Totoki, stated that they have not yet determined the timing or pricing for the new console.
The decision to delay the launch is primarily attributed to the high cost of RAM and components in the current market. Totoki mentioned that the ongoing shortage of supply is expected to keep memory prices at a premium, prompting Sony to carefully consider their strategy and business models.
Sony has confirmed that there will be no further price increases for the PlayStation 5 for the remainder of the year 2026. The company has secured the necessary materials and settled on a price for the existing console.
While rumors about the PlayStation 6 continue to circulate, the speculated specifications include a custom AMD Zen 6 architecture, RDNA 5 graphics, and 32GB of DDR7 RAM. However, the cost of DDR5 RAM is currently prohibitive, leading Sony to delay the release of a new console.
Reports suggest that the codenamed “Orion” PS6 will not hit the market until 2027 or 2028. Additionally, there is speculation about a handheld device called “Project Canis,” which is rumored to be compatible with PS4 and PS5 games.
Considering the evolving technology landscape, the leaked specs for the PS6 are subject to change before its official launch. The delay in release allows Sony to adapt to market conditions and technological advancements.
In a lighthearted twist, an image depicting a concept design for the PS6 has surfaced, hinting at a unique and futuristic design. While the actual appearance of the console remains a mystery, the concept art adds to the anticipation surrounding the upcoming release.
