Greg Brockman Leads OpenAI’s Product Strategy Amid CEO’s Medical Leave

OpenAI’s co-founder and president, Greg Brockman, has stepped up to lead the company’s product strategy, as reported by Wired. This move comes as a formalization of Brockman’s interim role in overseeing OpenAI’s products while CEO of AGI deployment, Fidji Simo, is on medical leave.

According to Wired, Brockman has outlined plans to merge ChatGPT and Codex, OpenAI’s programming product, into a cohesive and unified user experience. In a staff memo, he emphasized the need to consolidate product efforts for a focused approach towards the future, targeting both consumer and enterprise markets.

Despite Simo’s absence, OpenAI confirmed to TechCrunch that she collaborated with Brockman on these strategic changes. The company has been discussing the integration of ChatGPT, Codex, and its API into a single platform under one core product team.

Last year, CEO Sam Altman sounded the alarm by declaring a “code red” and emphasizing the importance of refocusing on ChatGPT’s core experience. Consequently, OpenAI has discontinued certain projects, including the video generator Sora and OpenAI for Science.
