Google Fi is getting AI-powered noise filters and RCS web messaging

Google Fi Announces Exciting Updates and New Features for Wireless Phone Plans

Google has recently unveiled a series of enhancements and additions to its Google Fi Wireless phone plans. One of the notable updates includes a revamp of web calls and messages, featuring a new interface that now fully supports RCS messaging. This upgrade allows users to share high-quality photos and videos within message threads, even when their phone is not in close proximity. This feature is set to roll out in early December at no extra cost.

Improved Call Quality and Noise Filtering

In a bid to enhance user experience, Google Fi is enhancing call quality, especially in noisy environments where background noises can interfere with communication. Starting mid-November, Google Fi will leverage Google AI to automatically filter out unwanted noises and enhance the clarity of voices on both ends of a call, even when one participant is using a landline or an older cellphone. While these filters will be applied automatically, users have the option to disable this feature if desired.

Expanded Wi-Fi Auto Connect Plus Feature

Additionally, Google Fi is broadening the reach of its Wi-Fi Auto Connect Plus feature, which automatically connects phones to select secure and high-quality Wi-Fi networks to enhance mobile data connection in areas with poor cellular coverage. This feature will now be accessible in tens of millions of locations across the US, including shopping malls, stores, and major airports such as LAX, ORD, and JFK. The feature is free of charge, ensures data security through a VPN, but is exclusively available for Pixel 5a smartphones and newer models.

Enhanced Billing Support and Limited-Time Promotion

To simplify subscribers’ monthly bills, Google Fi is upgrading its support features within the mobile app using Google AI to generate billing summaries. These summaries explain charges, month-to-month variations, and the potential impact of plan adjustments on future payments. Alongside these enhancements, Google Fi is launching a special promotion for new subscribers, offering a 50% discount for 15 months on the Unlimited Essentials or Unlimited Standard plans for users with existing phones.
