Ferrari reintroducing manual transmission despite electrification push

Sports cars and manual transmissions go hand in hand, just like fish and chips. Ferrari, known for its iconic vehicles, is rumored to be bringing back the manual transmission option.

According to The Supercar Blog, Ferrari is set to unveil a manual version of its 12Cilindri grand tourer. This news comes after Ferrari moved away from offering manual transmissions in their cars.

Clients will get a sneak peek of the manual 12Cilindri during Ferrari Cavalcade on June 29, 2026, followed by a global reveal in July.

The upcoming 12Cilindri will be the first Ferrari V12 production model with a manual transmission since the limited-run 599 GTB Fiorano from 2007, which featured a six-speed manual gearbox in only 30 units.

While Ferrari briefly offered manual transmissions in some V8-powered Californias before discontinuing them in 2011, the 12Cilindri manual is expected to be a highly coveted model among collectors due to its exclusivity.

The manual 12Cilindri will maintain the powerful 6.5-liter V12 engine producing 610kW and 678Nm of torque. However, it will replace the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic with a traditional gated manual gearbox.

Ferrari’s decision to reintroduce manual transmissions sets it apart from competitors like Lamborghini and Aston Martin, who have moved away from offering manual options in recent years.

The 12Cilindri, introduced as a successor to the 812 Superfast in May 2024, joins Ferrari’s lineup of front-engine V12 grand tourers. It sits above the Amalfi and features a front-mounted V12 engine.

Beyond traditional sports cars and grand tourers, Ferrari has expanded its portfolio to include the Purosangue SUV and the all-electric five-seater Luce, showcasing the brand’s innovation and evolution.
