Apple stops signing iOS 26.5.1 after critical security fix release

Apple Stops Signing iOS 26.5 and iOS 26.5.1 Versions

Apple has made the decision to stop signing iOS 26.5 and iOS 26.5.1, effectively blocking any possibility of downgrading to these previous software versions from newer releases. This action follows a critical security patch that was rolled out for iPhone devices last week.

As part of its standard procedure, Apple discontinues support for older versions of iPhone software once newer updates are made available. This measure is taken once the newer updates are deemed stable and free of major issues.

In the case of iOS 26.5.1, Apple introduced iOS 26.5.2 on June 29. The company allowed a week for the release to circulate before officially ending support for iOS 26.5.1.

iOS 26.5.2 was highlighted by Apple as a crucial software update addressing security vulnerabilities that needed immediate attention.

Furthermore, Apple expedited certain fixes originally planned for iOS 26.6 to ensure that customers receive the most secure software as quickly as possible. The decision was prompted by identified AI-powered hacking risks.

Currently, iOS 26.5.2 stands as the most recent version of iPhone software available. Additionally, the beta version of iOS 26.6 beta 4 was recently made accessible for developer testing alongside iOS 27 beta 3.

Anticipate the official release of iOS 26.6 later this month, following which iOS 27 is set to enter public beta testing.
