Walmart Embraces Modern Payment Methods with Apple Pay and Google Pay Integration
Walmart Embraces Google Pay and Apple Pay for Convenient Shopping
In a bid to enhance customer convenience, Walmart has announced its plans to introduce tap-to-pay functionality via Google Pay and Apple Pay at select Walmart and Sam’s Club locations starting August 24th. This feature is set to be rolled out to all US stores by the end of 2026 and to gas stations by mid-2027.
The move marks a significant shift for Walmart, as it was previously one of the few major retailers that did not support Apple Pay or Google Pay. Instead, the retail giant introduced Walmart Pay in 2016, enabling customers to check out quickly using a QR code at its stores. However, Walmart has now decided to embrace NFC-based payments with the introduction of tap-to-pay options.
According to a Walmart spokesperson, the company aims to provide customers with a variety of payment options to suit their preferences. The addition of tap-to-pay is seen as a complement to existing payment methods such as cash, credit cards, and Walmart Pay.
