London-Based Energy Management Startup Boldr Raises €4.2 Million in Pre-Series A Round

A London-based energy management startup, Boldr, has recently secured €4.2 million ($5 million) in a pre-Series A funding round. The primary objectives for this funding include expanding its smart climate technology across North America, enhancing its contractor software platform, and diversifying its offerings in the residential and commercial heating and cooling systems market.

The funding round was spearheaded by Unconventional Ventures, with significant contributions from Ada Ventures, Tetrad Ventures, Davidovs Venture Collective, Roxbury Asset Management, the Inclimo Climate Tech Fund, Prosegur, Techstars, the S20 Fund, and PropelX. This latest funding round follows an oversubscribed €2.7 million ($3.2 million) Seed round in 2025.

CEO and co-founder of Boldr, Madi Ablyazov, emphasized the importance of empowering HVAC contractors to shape the future of energy management. Ablyazov stated, “The next power plant won’t be one building. It will be millions of homes working together. But you don’t get there through a consumer app alone. You get there through the contractors who already install, service, and replace the equipment that controls energy inside the home. Our job is to give them the technology to make that future possible.”

Boldr’s pre-Series A funding comes at a time of increased investment in European technologies focusing on building energy management, heating and cooling systems, and grid flexibility. Notable rounds in 2026 include investments in companies like Axle Energy, GALVANY, Companion.energy, metiundo, and Capalo AI.

Unconventional Ventures Partner, Alexis Horowitz-Burdick, commended Boldr for addressing critical infrastructure challenges in the coming decade. Horowitz-Burdick stated, “Boldr is attacking one of the most important infrastructure challenges of the next decade: how to add flexible capacity to the grid quickly, affordably, and at massive scale.”

Established in 2022 by Madi Ablyazov, Toma Paro, and Matheus Marotzke, Boldr focuses on creating an energy management platform that connects various equipment within homes and buildings, with an initial emphasis on HVAC systems. The company’s long-term vision involves integrating heating and cooling systems, batteries, EV chargers, and solar installations into a connected network capable of adjusting electricity demand as needed by the grid.

Rather than directly selling technology to homeowners, Boldr collaborates with HVAC contractors to deploy connected energy solutions at scale. The company views these contractor networks as a key avenue for implementing energy technology while equipping contractors with tools to manage installed systems effectively.

One of Boldr’s flagship products is the Universal Thermostat, a hardware-agnostic climate control system designed to streamline installations for HVAC contractors. This system utilizes a wireless architecture, eliminating the need for new physical thermostat wiring and potentially saving up to €428 ($500) in labor costs per installation.

Boldr’s cloud platform receives real-time telemetry from each installed unit, allowing contractors and operators to monitor equipment performance remotely and diagnose issues without immediate on-site visits. The company is also developing a specialized SaaS diagnostics platform to assist contractors in servicing, maintenance, and building long-term customer relationships.

Through connected equipment, Boldr aims to offer grid operators additional flexibility during periods of high electricity demand without solely relying on centralized power generation and transmission infrastructure. The company has already established nationwide distribution partnerships in the US with HVAC companies such as Daikin and Bosch-owned Source 1, granting access to established contractor networks.
