Amazon’s Drone Delivery Service Expanding to 500 US Cities

Amazon’s drone delivery service is set to reach 500 cities across the United States, offering speedy delivery to customers. However, recent incidents have raised concerns about packages being dropped into pools by the drones. A video shared by ABC7 News Bay Area showed an Amazon delivery drone hovering over a customer’s pool in Texas and dropping the package directly into the water.

Previous Incidents of Soggy Deliveries

This is not the first time Amazon’s drones have delivered packages that ended up in water. In a video from last July, a Prime Air drone dropped a package near a pool in Arizona, only to have the air from its propellers blow it into the water. Another incident in May saw a package being dropped near a pond, bouncing off the ground, and tumbling into the water.

Safety Measures and Concerns

Amazon has stated that its drones are programmed to check for any obstacles, such as people, pets, or vehicles, before making a delivery. However, the incidents involving packages landing in water raise the question of whether the drones should also consider water bodies as potential hazards. Amazon has not yet responded to inquiries about these incidents.
