Fallout 5: A New Chapter Unveiled Amidst Xbox’s Mass Layoffs
Xbox Announces Upcoming Projects at Bethesda Game Studios
Amidst a period of restructuring that includes layoffs and deep cuts at studios like id Software and Obsidian Entertainment, Xbox is striving to reassure fans by unveiling a slate of upcoming projects at Bethesda Game Studios. The highlight of this announcement is the official confirmation that Fallout 5 is currently in development.
Bethesda director Todd Howard expressed the company’s commitment to investing more in beloved game worlds, offering creators a greater role in shaping player experiences, and fostering closer collaboration within development teams. This strategy aims to expedite game release timelines, extend post-launch support, and ensure sustained growth alongside the gaming community.
While details on Fallout 5 remain scarce, Howard emphasized the project’s significance as a top priority for Bethesda. The game is currently in the preproduction phase, indicating that its release is still several years away. This confirmation marks a significant milestone, coming more than a decade after the launch of Fallout 4, the franchise’s last mainline installment.
In addition to Fallout 5, Howard revealed that a new Fallout game is in the works at Obsidian, the studio behind the acclaimed Fallout: New Vegas. Remastered versions of Fallout 3 and New Vegas are also in development, although no release dates have been announced.
Regarding The Elder Scrolls VI, Howard provided insights into the game’s progress, confirming that it shares a technology platform with Fallout 5. While a release window was not specified, Howard stated that the majority of the team is dedicated to advancing the next chapter of the acclaimed franchise, emphasizing the team’s enthusiasm for the project.
In a nod to fans eagerly anticipating the release of Starfield, Howard assured that the franchise remains a key focus for Bethesda’s future endeavors, hinting at exciting developments to come.
