Fallout 5: Navigating the Wasteland – Bethesda’s Series Roadmap Revealed
The Future of Fallout: Remasters, New Projects, and Fallout 5
Bethesda Game Studios has revealed exciting plans for the Fallout franchise, including remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, a collaboration with Obsidian Entertainment, and the commencement of preproduction on Fallout 5.
While details on Fallout 5 are scarce, Bethesda’s Studio director Todd Howard has confirmed that it is a long-term project, stating, “Fallout 5 remains our long-range destination.”
A major Fallout Day celebration is scheduled for October 23, 2027, which may offer more insights into the future of the series. However, Bethesda has not disclosed when Fallout 5 will enter full production or its anticipated release date.
Here is Bethesda’s official message regarding the Fallout franchise:
Fallout is currently a top priority for Bethesda, with Fallout 5 being a key focus for the future. Multiple Fallout projects are currently in active development.
Meanwhile, Fallout 76 continues to thrive with millions of players exploring its world together. The game has received nearly 70 free updates, with a major expansion titled Raven Rock planned for next year, serving as a prequel to Fallout 3.
Additionally, Fallout 4, the franchise’s most acclaimed title, recently celebrated its 10th anniversary and has surpassed 35 million copies sold. Plans for remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are also in the works.
Furthermore, Fallout Shelter remains popular among players, with over 250 million players enjoying the mobile game. Future updates for Fallout Shelter, including new Seasons, are on the horizon.
An unscripted Fallout Shelter television project is also in development in collaboration with Amazon Studios and Kilter Films, with Season 3 already in production.
Congratulations were extended to Kilter Films and Amazon Studios for the 10 Emmy nominations received for Fallout Season 2, with Season 3 already in progress.
While a traditional Fallout Day broadcast is not planned for this year, a special celebration is being prepared for Fallout’s 30th anniversary in 2027, to be held live in Washington, D.C.
Bethesda has confirmed the development of remasters for Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, with no release dates announced yet. The extent of updates to the original games remains undisclosed.
Obsidian Entertainment is collaborating with Bethesda on a new Fallout project, marking their return to the franchise after developing Fallout: New Vegas. This partnership follows reports of Xbox shifting the studio’s focus to a new Fallout game.
Meanwhile, Fallout 76 is set to receive a significant expansion named Raven Rock in 2027, serving as a prequel to Fallout 3. Testing for native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game is underway, promising enhanced visuals and performance.
