EnSilica secures €1.7m satellite chip contract and partners with 5G-aNTeNna consortium
EnSilica Expands Role in EU Space Sector with Satellite Chip Development Contract
EnSilica is taking on a new challenge in the EU space sector by securing a contract to develop satellite chips for advanced communications infrastructure. This 10-month project will involve the development of system architecture, advanced signal processing algorithms, and a working demonstrator, as part of the second phase of a satellite communications ASIC program for a prominent European satellite manufacturer.
Through this project, EnSilica aims to strengthen its relationships within the European industry and enhance its technical capabilities.
Driving Innovation in 5G Network Connectivity
EnSilica has recently joined the European 5G-aNTeNna consortium, which is dedicated to developing user terminal technology for the European Union’s cutting-edge IRIS² satellite constellation. As a part of this initiative, the company will supply application-specific standard products (ASSPs) for satellite user terminals, expanding its expertise beyond satellite payload technology to the ground segment of Europe’s sovereign satellite communications network. This move also positions EnSilica to tap into the emerging 5G non-terrestrial network (5G-NTN) market.
EnSilica’s CEO, Ian Lankshear, expressed excitement about the company’s involvement in the consortium, stating that it aligns with their focus on enabling semiconductor technologies for compact, electronically steerable user terminals that are crucial for the wider deployment of 5G-NTN services in satellite networks.
Financial Outlook Amidst Strategic Contract Wins
While securing significant contracts signifies industry confidence in EnSilica, the company’s financial performance paints a less optimistic picture. Reports of declining revenue, ongoing losses, and weaker free cash flow have surfaced, raising concerns about the company’s financial stability.
Despite potential risks associated with overconfidence in stock and short-term volatility, technical indicators suggest improved share price momentum in recent months. Valuation remains challenging due to the absence of dividends and speculated losses, but EnSilica’s strategic moves in the satellite chip market could potentially drive future growth.
