David Bautista Confirmed to Replace Ryan Hurst in Amazon’s God of War TV Series

Recent reports have confirmed that Dave Bautista, known for his role in Guardians of the Galaxy, will be stepping in to replace Ryan Hurst in Amazon’s highly-anticipated God of War television series. The news comes after initial rumors suggested the casting change earlier this month.

According to sources at Variety, the deal has been finalized, and Bautista is set to take on the role of Kratos in the series. This decision comes after Hurst suffered a bicep injury while performing a stunt for the show, requiring surgery and a recovery time of up to six months. The lengthy recovery period clashed with the production schedule, leading to the difficult choice to recast the role.

Deadline reported, “While Hurst’s full recovery is a priority, the period required for it was longer than the production shooting schedule could accommodate, leading to the difficult decision to recast the role.”

As a result, scenes from the initial episodes will need to be reshot with Bautista in the lead role. The show has already been renewed for two seasons, creating anticipation for fans eager to see the new Kratos in action.

Joining Bautista in the cast are Callum Vinson as Atreus, Andy Patinkin as Odin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Max Parker as Heimdall, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Danny Woodburn as Brok, and Alastair Duncan as Mimir.

Looking ahead, the next installment in the God of War franchise, titled God of War Laufey, is scheduled for release in 2027. The game will follow Faye, also known as Laufey the Just, waking up in the Everywhen, an afterlife for gods from various religions.
