Electric Land Rover Defender Prototype Spotted in the UK

Recent reports suggest that Land Rover is shifting its focus towards the development of the Range Rover EV, slowing down progress on the electric Defender. However, amidst this development, an intriguing sight was spotted in the UK – a heavily camouflaged electric Land Rover Defender.

Located at Eastnor Castle in the UK, the electric Defender was seen parked alongside other Land Rover vehicles. Although the model has not been officially confirmed by the company, speculation points towards it being the anticipated Defender Sport.

The upcoming model is projected to occupy a position below the full-size Defender, potentially filling the void left by the soon-to-be-discontinued Discovery Sport. The Defender Sport is anticipated to adopt a more luxurious approach while offering electric propulsion.

Notably, the prototype exhibits design cues inspired by the Defender, featuring a boxy silhouette and an externally mounted spare wheel. However, its front end and C-pillar appear more refined compared to the larger Defender model.

Expected to utilize JLR’s Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA), the electric Defender is designed to accommodate electric vehicles and conventional hybrids. This platform underscores the brand’s commitment to sustainable mobility solutions.

As the automotive industry transitions towards electrification, Land Rover’s foray into electric SUVs with the Defender Sport signals a strategic move towards a more eco-conscious future.
