How to Stop the Pre-Installed Google App From Draining Your Battery
Managing Battery Drain: The Impact of Apps on Your Device
An example of an app that significantly impacts battery life is the Google app. When used in conjunction with the Google Chrome browser, it constantly reloads data, such as updating the Google Discover feed, putting a strain on your device’s battery.
To identify which apps are draining your battery, navigate to Settings > Battery and select Battery usage by app. This section provides a detailed breakdown of the apps consuming the most battery power, along with the duration and energy usage in mAh.
The Google app, Google Maps, social media apps, and YouTube are common culprits for draining battery life due to constant background running.
Tips to Extend Battery Life
To minimize the Google app’s background activity and preserve battery life, restrict the app’s permissions. In the app’s settings, navigate to Settings > Additional settings and disable the Discover feed update feature.
In your device’s system settings, locate the Google app under Apps > App Management (or similar) and choose Manage permissions. Opt for the option to ‘Stop app activity when not in use’.
If the option is unavailable, return to Settings > Battery > Battery usage by app. Locate the Google app and activate Limit background usage to restrict its background operations.
