The Acer Project DualPlay Mini: A Game-Changing Concept Device for PC Gamers

In recent years, PC gamers looking for on-the-go gaming options have been faced with a choice: invest in a gaming laptop or opt for one of the smaller, less versatile handheld devices inspired by the Steam Deck. Acer is now challenging this dichotomy with its latest concept device, the Project DualPlay Mini, which combines the portability of a handheld with the functionality of a keyboard.

The DualPlay Mini is primarily a Windows gaming handheld, similar to Acer’s existing Predator Atlas 8 lineup. Featuring analog sticks, a D-pad, Xbox-style ABXY face buttons, and shoulder triggers, the device’s “flip-and-swivel design” allows users to switch from a traditional gaming setup to a compact, backlit mini keyboard configuration.

With its 8-inch screen, the DualPlay Mini may not be ideal as a primary work device unless paired with an external monitor. However, it offers a convenient backup option for travelers, eliminating the need to carry multiple devices. The ability to play keyboard-friendly PC games on a device the size of a Steam Deck adds to its appeal.

As a concept device, Acer has not disclosed detailed specifications for the DualPlay Mini. Powered by an Intel chip and featuring a dual-fan cooling system similar to the Predator Atlas 8, the device includes two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt support. The design showcases a metal fan and a plastic fan, with thinner blades on the metal fan compared to previous models.
