Tesla Model Y L: Unleashing Enhanced Power and Extended Range
The Tesla Model Y L in China Receives Range and Power Boost
The Tesla Model Y L in China is set to undergo an update that will enhance its performance. The update includes a slight increase in range and power, thanks to a new electric motor being introduced to the model.
The updates made to the Model Y L in China are expected to eventually make their way to models delivered in Australia. However, Tesla Australia has not yet confirmed the timing for when the updated model will be available in the country.
According to reports from Chinese outlet Sina, the Model Y L will see an increase in range from 751km to 776km on the CLTC cycle, with energy consumption dropping from 12.8kWh/100km to 12.4kWh/100km.
The improved range is not due to a new battery but rather through “core technology optimization”. The Model Y L’s weight remains the same at 2088kg.
One of the key hardware changes in the updated Model Y L is the introduction of Tesla’s new ‘TL2’ front electric motor, which now produces 176kW, up from 142kW in the previous model. The rear electric motor remains unchanged at 198kW.
The acceleration of the Model Y L is expected to improve with these changes, although the exact impact on acceleration time is yet to be confirmed. Currently, the Model Y L takes 5.0 seconds to accelerate from 0-100km/h.
Tesla provides WLTP range figures in Australia, with the current Model Y L listed as having 681km of range under this test cycle.
Australian buyers have shown interest in the Model Y L, with sales figures indicating its popularity over the core five-seater Model Y range in recent months.
The introduction of the Model Y L provides Australian customers with a Tesla option offering more than five seats, following the discontinuation of the Model X. The Model Y L is currently available in Australia as a dual-motor all-wheel drive Premium variant priced at $74,900 before on-road costs.
