Meta’s Muse AI Agent Blocked from Shopping on Amazon

According to a report by GeekWire, Meta’s Muse AI agent has been prohibited from shopping on Amazon on behalf of its users. Users of Muse started receiving a popup message on Sunday, informing them that the unauthorized AI agent’s continued access violates Amazon’s Conditions of Use.

Meta failed to notify Amazon about Muse’s access to its store, leading to privacy and security concerns raised by Amazon. The e-commerce giant expressed worry over Muse’s lack of identification when browsing, potentially compromising customer credentials.

An unnamed Amazon spokesperson told GeekWire that third-party applications facilitating purchases from other businesses should operate transparently and respect service provider decisions. Amazon has contacted Meta for a response to the situation.

In a bid to combat competition from agentic AI services and retain customers, Amazon has taken legal action against rival AI service providers. The company’s efforts include a lawsuit against Perplexity last year and alterations to confirmation emails to prevent data mining by external AI services.
