Electric Land Rover Defender Prototype Spotted Testing at the Nurburgring

Land Rover seems to be making significant progress in the development of its electric Defender, as evidenced by a recent sighting of a heavily camouflaged prototype testing at the Nurburgring.

The prototype, although still disguised, clearly draws inspiration from the iconic Defender with its upright and boxy proportions. However, one particular detail at the rear of the vehicle has captured attention.

On the tailgate, there is a mysterious rectangular box that has been spotted on previous prototypes as well, albeit concealed under camouflage. The latest spy shots offer a clearer view of its shape.

The box appears too flat and narrow to house a standard spare wheel, leading to speculation that it could be intended for storing charging cables or other accessories. A similar solution is seen in the electric G-Class by Mercedes, where a rear-mounted Design Box serves as a storage compartment for charging equipment, replacing the traditional spare-wheel cover.

While the exact function of the rectangular box remains unknown at this point, its presence hints at innovative design features in the electric Defender.

As testing progresses, it is likely that the electric Defender will gradually shed its camouflage in the coming months, revealing more details about its design and capabilities.
