Newer Pixel Watches Require Cellular Service for Safety Features
Google Pixel Watch LTE Models Losing Free Safety Signal Access
In a recent community post, Google has announced that users of the LTE versions of the Pixel Watch 2 and 3 will no longer have free access to Safety Signal features. These features, such as Emergency SOS, Fall Detection, and Safety Check, were previously available through cellular networks without the need for a carrier plan. This connectivity was part of a Google Health Premium subscription. However, starting December 12th, users will need to pay for a mobile plan to continue using Safety Signal on an LTE network.
Transition for Existing Users
Existing users who have been enjoying free access to Safety Signal will receive notifications and an email regarding the upcoming changes. During a 30-day transition period from the email notification, users can still access Safety Signal features without a mobile plan. However, this access will cease after the mid-December deadline.
Continued Functionality Without a Mobile Plan
While free access to Safety Signal on LTE networks will no longer be available, the emergency features it covered will still work on the Pixel Watch 2 and 3 without a mobile plan. Users can utilize these features when the watch is connected to Wi-Fi or paired with a smartphone over Bluetooth.
