The Future of Porsche Boxster and Cayman: Electric Replacements

The iconic combustion-powered Porsche Boxster and Cayman models will not be making a comeback. Porsche has officially announced that the future of these beloved cars will be electric, marking a significant shift in the brand’s direction.

Porsche’s Head of Corporate Communications, Matthias Rauter, clarified that there were never any concrete plans for a new petrol-powered version of the 718 series. While technically the cars were never canceled, the end result remains the same for enthusiasts – there will be no new gas-powered Boxster or Cayman hitting the roads.

It’s a disappointment for many fans as a modern combustion-powered 718 could have been a standout addition to Porsche’s lineup. The unique mid-engined layout and compact size have always set these models apart from the rest.

However, Porsche is forging ahead with its electric vehicle strategy. The electric versions of the Boxster and Cayman are slated to go into full production by 2028, with a potential debut as early as next year.
