Google Enhances Fitbit Air Features to Compete with Whoop Strap

Google is making strides to bridge the gap between the Fitbit Air and its competitor, the Whoop Strap, by introducing new features to the Fitbit Air. One such feature is the Health Guardian, similar to the Health Report available on the Whoop Strap.

In addition to the Health Guardian, Google has expanded the automatic workout tracking capabilities of the Fitbit Air. Previously limited to detecting 10 workouts without user input, the device can now recognize 100 unique exercises automatically.

Google has improved the Fitbit Air’s workout tracking accuracy by implementing greater contextual reasoning in the Google Health app. The app now recognizes common workouts in users’ routines, resulting in a claimed 2x increase in detection accuracy.

Furthermore, the Fitbit Air now offers compatibility with a wider range of third-party apps. Users can connect to apps like Flo Health for menstrual cycle tracking, MyFitnessPal for meal logging, and Abbott’s Lingo for blood glucose data integration.

As part of the update, Google has introduced a new Metal Mesh band for the Fitbit Air, transforming the fitness tracker into a trendy fashion accessory.

However, Fitbit enthusiasts may be disappointed as Google has discontinued the classic Fitbit app. Users attempting to access the app will now be directed to update to the new Google Health app.
