Prime 360: AI-Powered NBA Replay Experience
Amazon is set to revolutionize basketball coverage with the introduction of Prime 360, an AI-powered camera system that promises to deliver a unique viewing experience for fans. The technology utilizes a network of high-resolution cameras strategically positioned around the arena to capture plays from multiple angles, providing viewers with highlight replays that traditional cameras cannot replicate.
Prime 360 will be featured during live games and as an analysis tool during pregame, halftime, and postgame shows for select broadcasts. Amazon’s team of producers, engineers, and AI scientists collaborated to develop the system, leveraging the company’s proprietary AWS Trainium chips for processing.
Describing the technology as akin to a video game camera, Associate Producer Josh Green highlighted the synchronized and calibrated nature of the cameras, with footage sent to the AWS cloud for reconstruction as a 3D scene, offering a unique perspective for fans at home.
In addition to Prime 360, Prime Video is introducing a fantasy basketball integration with Yahoo Sports, allowing viewers to link their accounts to access real-time stats and fantasy team information during games.
Last season, Amazon debuted “NBA on Prime” with a Celtics-Knicks matchup, marking the start of an 11-year deal granting exclusive rights to select regular-season and playoff games. This season, Amazon plans to stream over 100 games, including playoff coverage and exclusive access to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time.
Returning features from the previous season include tracking of active FanDuel bets and the Prime Vision alternate stream, which showcases AI-powered stats and graphics. The season opener is scheduled for October 23, featuring a doubleheader with the New York Knicks hosting the Boston Celtics followed by the Houston Rockets facing the San Antonio Spurs.
Access to “NBA on Prime” programming is included with a Prime membership, offering games in English and Spanish on the Prime Video app and web platform. The annual subscription costs $139, with a monthly option available at $14.99.
